# Create a Stallion

What makes a horse a stallion in CRIO?

To record Breeding Services or when storing Embryos or Semen Doses in nitrogen tanks, you will need to set the stallion.

To mark a standard male horse to be a Stallion you just need to set the sex and the stallion flag:

If you want an **external horse to be a Stallion in your account** but don't want it in My Horses, mark the horse as REFERENCE. This is the procedure to follow when purchasing semen or embryos from external stallions.
